The Proving Zone
Rush Hour
D_A_D

As the eternal conflict rages across the galaxies many a
seasoned commander is lost. Soon incompetence threatens
to collapse the Core battle thrust. Many hard won worlds
begin to fall to the infidel Arm battle groups. Finally, a
seasoned Core commander is called upon to stem the tide.
D_A_D surprises all when instead of a proposing a bold
tactical thrust aimed at the Arm he suggested that a trial-by-fire
training school be used to harden new commanders.

Thus the Proving Zone was conceived. D_A_D
commandeered the planet Enip IV, a former partially
converted industrial complex for his school. Captured Arm
commanders are forced into these battles with false
promises of freedom if they are victorious. The first tactic
he decided to try to counter was the Arm tactic of rushing.
Thus Zone I - Rush Hour was made.

Map notes:

To use this map place the ufo file into your c:\cavedog\totala\
directory (or wherever you have it installed).

Rush Hour is my first map and was developed using TAE
from Cavedog. This is a skirmish map. Sure you can use it
for multiplayer, but the starting positions would not be fair.
I love to play with other players, but often the net just
doesn't co-operate. I also get tired of people whining about
certain tactics. They need to practice, and although no AI
can simulate a human opponent I hope to present a series of
skirmish maps that will provide practice arenas targeted a
certain tactics.

Here's some suggestions on how to use this map. Against
1 or 2 AI opponents (10k/10k) there is a fairly simple
path to victory. Take control of the choke points in the
center of the map with DT and LT, then it's just a matter
of time till you win. Oh, by the way, I help the AI with
it's choke points by setting them up in advance.

But if you want a challenge go to 3 or 4 opponents. I have
carefully chosen the starting positions of all 10 AI
opponents. Once you go to the 3rd or 4th opponent you
definitely are going to get an early rush and in addition you
have worry about a commander rush into your main base.
After many tries I have yet to be able to win against 5 or
more opponents.

I kept the map size small and simple so as to use as little
memory as possible. It was constructed by cutting and
pasting from the Metal Isles map from Cavedog.

I also welcome any suggestions or ideas for new Proving
Zone practice maps. I'm also considering using this and
other Proving zone maps for missions and/or a campaign.
